Those Who Earn Money Online Through Reviews Must Have Clear and Conspicuous Disclosure

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) took a step last Monday to regulate blogging. News from MSNBC said, “The FTC will require that writers on the Web clearly disclose any freebies or payments they get from companies for reviewing their products.” The commissioners of FTC voted 4-0 the final guidelines which will take effect on December 1, 2009.

Particularly for bloggers, “Rich Cleland, assistant director of the FTC’s advertising practices division, said the disclosure must be “clear and conspicuous,” no matter what form it will take,” MSNBC news article said.

So, the question is, “how will this affect bloggers who do paid reviews for online companies who pay them to blog?” For companies who require a review, then bloggers will then have to disclose that they were paid to write the review. For other companies who just want to get a link in a blog post, as long as it does not review a product or a site, then a disclosure would not be necessary. Continue reading

Advantages of Having Unlimited Add-On Domains in a Web Host

When I started blogging to make money online I did not have the luxury of having unlimited add-on domains. In fact, I did not have a paid host or a domain, for that matter. I started blogging using the free blogging platform of blogger.com and learned and experimented using a subdomain form blogspot.com.

Four months after, I bought my first domain but still used free hosting which did not leave me much to experiment with compared to having unlimited add-on domains. In the beginning of this year, I decided to venture into investing in domain names (dot com, dot net or dot org only) but was faced with the need to purchase more web hosts. Continue reading

I Was Asked to Share My Online Money Making Experiences

Last week I was sharing my online money making experience to a teacher of a high school in Makati City and at the end of our conversation, he invited me to speak to a group of teachers from his department which he will be organizing. He asked me to share about my experiences as I learned to make money online.

So, right now, as I share these things I also am trying to organize my thoughts on how I will share the whole money making experience online. I will need to share about how experts, of whom I am not a part of, make plenty of money online and how I, as a simple blogger who is trying to learn and learn have earned since the beginning of 2008.

I just hope that I would be able to inspire the high school teachers to start blogging and start monetizing the blogs they will be creating a few months from now.
